Get to Know the CRS Program at the UTG
CHRISTIAN RELIGIOUS STUDIES PROGRAM
THE UNIVERSITY OF THE GAMBIA
B.A. & M.A. Degrees

The Christian Religious Studies Program (CRS) at the University of the Gambia (UTG)
has been educating eager students since 2015 in the foundations of the Christian faith.
We have now graduated over 50 students who have grown deeper in their hope and
trust in Jesus Christ and found meaningful employment for life in the Gambia and
beyond. Some of our students have graduated to continue their studies at the Masters
level in our own program and at overseas institutions of higher education.

Why Enroll in the CRS Program?
There is no other program in the Gambia that gives students this depth of spiritual,
theological, historical, and ethical understanding about the Christian faith attached to a
official Gambian university bachelor degree. This means:
- We have highly qualified internationally diverse faculty of dedicated teachers
from different Christian backgrounds. The student will be educated to grow in
wisdom, knowledge, and understanding of the Christian faith as it exists in the
country of Gambia and West Africa—as part of the worldwide fellowship of the
Christian Church. - The student will be certified so they can qualify for jobs as teachers, preachers,
church leaders, and informed Christians in other fields. - Those who are already teachers or preachers will be given a deeper
understanding of their faith, and this will allow them to take on more
responsibilities and often receive increased wages that will help support their
family. - You can also take an additional major or minor course of study at UTG that
complements the CRS degree to make you eligible for other jobs. - Our graduates help strengthen the church in the Gambia, developing leaders
who know better how to flourish in this country and work for the common good of
its people. Students learn to live and work with students and faculty from different
tribes, denominations and nations. - We have scholarships available that will cover much of the cost of tuition, and so
make the financial burden possible to bear for everyone.
Who Can Apply to the CRS Program?
Because this is a UTG program, there are important pre-requisites for entry into the
university. These requirements include: - You must be a student eager to learn more about the depth and richness of the
Christian faith. - You must be a student who is mature, disciplined, and able to study well.
Speaking, reading and writing in English are very important to success in this
program. - You must have at least 5 high school credits if you are under 30 years old, or 3
credits if you are over 30 years old. If you do not, we can help you get tutoring so
that this can be accomplished. - You must have enough time in your schedule to attend classes at the UTG
campus. Classes are not all day or every day, but it will take time to come to the
campus, participate in the classes and do the assigned homework.
How Do I Apply to the CRS Program?
Because becoming a student at UTG is a privilege, it comes with a few important steps
to ensure your placement in the program. - You must talk with the CRS recruitment officer, Pastor Benjamin Michael. He
guides all applicants in the process of entering the CRS program. - You must enroll as a student at UTG and be accepted as a candidate for study
there. - You must have an interview with CRS and UTG faculty and staff to ensure you
are a worthy candidate for the scholarships that are offered through the
international organization Global Scholars Canada. - Officials will then let you know your status as a student and give you information
on the classes you may take.
The CRS program at UTG has alumni that will testify to the transformation that has
taken place in their lives due to the education they received. We can give you contacts
that will introduce you to what life is like learning and growing in this special course of
study.
