Our professors are persons who commit themselves to being God’s representative in an overseas academic setting. We can help you fulfill this calling by providing…
Prayer & Personal Support
We have a team of prayer partners who will regularly pray for you, and we will communicate regularly with you via email, phone or Skype. If you find you need extra assistance, we will do our best to support you.
We developed a comprehensive travel checklist gleaned from decades of experience. This list includes everything necessary to make sure your affairs are in order before departure, and plans are in place for a smooth arrival. Our goal is to equip you to start strong in your new country of service.
A Learning Community
Proverbs 27:17 coins the term “iron sharpens iron”. By being a part of the GSC community you are joining dozens of other academics who are committed to the same cause. Together they learn from one another and encourage one another to hold out the Word of Life to students and colleagues (Phil. 2:16). The GSC community has always shown evidence that they “spur one another on to love and good deeds” (Hebrews 10:24).
*It is important to note that GSC professors raise their own support to supplement the host university income they receive.*
GSC is a member of the Canadian Council of Christian Charities and an affiliate of the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada.
As a government-approved charity, GSC issues receipts that Canadian residents can use for income tax purposes. Under the terms of GSC’s partnership with Global Scholars – US, American donors can support your work (and received US tax deductible receipts) by donating to Global Scholars – US.
Health Insurance and Pension Plan
All Canadian professors are covered by health insurance while overseas, and may choose to enroll in optional disability and dental insurance. Both the professors and GSC contribute to the Canadian Pension Plan, and professors may elect to participate in a group RRSP plan.
The GSC/Global Scholars community provides direction, encouragement, counsel, advice and prayer, both while preparing to serve internationally and during your time overseas.
In some parts of the world it enhances one’s credibility and effectiveness in the university to be a part of an international academic organization such as GSC. If an unexpected problem or a crisis arises, GSC can at times serve as a constructive liaison between a professor and the university, or provide assistance in dealing with personal or professional complications.
Space for Growth
You are encouraged to attend conferences in your academic discipline, conduct research, publish, present papers at conferences, and develop skills in classroom instruction.
We ask you to complete an annual report and spiritual inventory – this helps you reflect on your personal, spiritual, and professional growth throughout the year.
GSC professors are free to implement the important tradition of sabbatical for focusing on both spiritual and academic growth and renewal.
